C.1880 Afghan Army Military Sword and Scabbard

turkish-19th-century-sword-3

Highly unusual and rare c.1890 Afghani Military Sword

Am not certain about which branch of the army carried this model of sword but am currently trying to identify. In excellent condition and of high quality manufacture. With unusual steel, stirrup-type shape with slotted knucklebow. Wooden grips with high ferrule. Blade is of top quality steel with quill point. Blade forte is deeply stamped with the royal coat of arms of King Abdur Rahman Khan (c.1840’s-1890), one of the most famous of Afghan kings and a figure involved in many military campaigns and political/family intrigues during a long reign that included a period of exile before he became king.  Complete with its original steel and leather mounted scabbard. A unique piece and unlikely to be encountered again.

Condition of the Sword

Excellent condition and with a very clean blade – both scabbard and blade a good fit.

Complete with its original steel and leather mounted scabbard. A unique piece and unlikely to be encountered again.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 24 inches (30.5 inches overall).
