Large British Napoleonic Infantry NCO’s Handpainted Figure

Large British Napoleonic Infantry NCO’s Handpainted Figure.   A terrific and large resin British Napoleonic figure of an NCO in the 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot.  The 34th Regiment of Foot was formed in 1702 and at the beginning of the Napoleonic conflict the First Battalion were posted to the West Indies to put down revolutionary inspired uprisings. They were stationed there for the remainder of the war.  The Second Battalion served with distinction during  the Peninsular Campaign and during the Battle of Arroyo dos Molinos (1811), they fought the French 34th Regiment and captured the French drums and the Drum Major’s mace.  The regiment still possesses these items today (despite requests for their return by the French Government.)  On the anniversary of the battle 28 October (“Arroyo Day”) the Regimental band would form up and parade beating the captured drums in celebration. These were presented for safe keeping to the Regimental Museum at Carlisle Castle and are now on public display though the celebration is continued today as part of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (King’s, Lancashire and Border).  The detail and painting of the figure is excellent and he comes complete with his long spontoon and sword. In great condition – no damage of wear – would make a great display piece for any collection of Napoleonic militaria.  Height of the figure is 16 inches.  I have another French Napoleonic infantry figure for sale – please take a look.
