Bavarian 19th Century Infantry NCO’s Sword

bavarian-19th-century-infantry-sword-3

Scarce and fine Bavarian 19th Century Infantry NCO’s Sword.  A good example with a brass hilt reminscent of the Austrian Model 1861 Infantry Sword.  All original fishskin and brass twistwire to the grip still remains.  Is regimentally marked and matching to both the underside of the hilt and the top of the scabbard.  Many Imperial German swords with regimental numbers tend to be mismatched and it is rare to find one with matching numbers and also to the one regiment rather than several regiments, during the swords long service life.  There are also official issue marks to both blade, hilt and scabbard.

Blade with etched Bavarian state motto

Blade is etched to both sides with the Bavarian state motto – In Treue Fest – Steadfast with Loyalty.  In good overall condition – scabbard throat missing.  Blade length is 32.5 inches (38 inches overall).
