French Napoleonic Naval Officer’s Sword

french-napoleonic-naval-officers-sword-2

A rare French Napoleonic Naval Officer's Sword with nautical decoration to the hilt.  Here is a scarcely seen c.1790's French Napoleonic naval officer's sword.  It comprises a brass mounted hilt with inset anchor motif to the backstrap that also includes a French Revolutionary Phrygian cap and furled banners.   There is great variety in the styles of French naval Napoleonic swords and this example has been heavily influenced by contemporary French hussar officers' cavalry swords.

Plain blade with double edge towards the point

The grip is made from ebony.  The blade is plain and double-edged towards the point.  No scabbard.  In good overall condition with dark and smooth age patination.  Blade length is 27.25 inches (32.25 inches overall).
