German 19th Century Military Officer’s Sword

german-19th-century-sword-3

An interesting example of a German 19th Century Military Officer’s Sword.  An unusual and scarce German military sword that dates from the mid-late 19th Century and is reminiscent of British Army officers’ swords of the period.  It is marked with a crown and letter C to the hilt and scabbard.  I would assume that it relates to a particular ruling monarch within a German state pre-1871 re-unification.

British Gothic style sword hilt

The hilt is of British Gothic style and the grip is made from ribbed horn.  The blade is plain and with the scales motif of the German sword making firm of Alcoso (Alexander Coppel) to the blade forte.  Comes complete with its original steel scabbard.  Am wondering whether this is possibly an NCO’s sword due to the official inspection stamps mentioned earlier.  Certainly an interesting piece.  In good overall condition – some wear to the end of the blade.  Blade length is 32 inches (38 inches overall).
