German North European Napoleonic Heavy Cavalry Officer’s Sword

napoleonic-cavalry-officers-sword-2

A very good and scarce German North European Napoleonic Heavy Cavalry Officer's Sword.  This is a fine example of a late-18th and early 19th Century cavalry officer's sword with brass, three-bar hilt and grip wrapped in black leather and bound with copper twistwire.  The hilt style is reminiscent of contemporary French cavalry swords but I believe that this sword is probably German or North European in origin.  The blade is etched with a rampant lion within a shield and royal crown to top.  This motif is similar to Bavarian royal motifs so this is a distinct possibility.

Blade is etched with stands of trophies and foliage.

The blade is also etched with stands of trophies and foliage.  Condition of the sword is excellent, especially the grip.   Both blade and hilt are rock solid no movement.  Outstanding piece.  No scabbard.  Blade length is 34 inches (39 inches overall).
