An original and super rare Irish Nationalist 1916 Easter Rising veteran's 1935 armband. It was the first official "decoration" given to veterans of the 1916 Rebellion and was awarded at a ceremony held at the Rotunda Rink, Dublin, on Sunday 21 April 1935 to mark the 19th Anniversary of the Rebellion. This armband was worn by Volunteer veterans with their civilian attire on special ceremonial occasions, prior to the introduction of the famous 1916 Active Service Medal.
Very few Irish 1916 Easter Rising armbands in existence
As there were only 2,439 1916 Active Service Medals issued and these are extremely rare and valuable (also currently copied) to the collector, the number of these armbands in existence has got to be quite small - very few will have survived over the years - especially so in this excellent condition. Cannot be faulted. Dimensions are 7.5 inches x 4.5 inches.
