Rare Japanese WW2 Formosa Taiwan Infantry Officer’s Sword

An excellent and rare sword carried by Formosan (Taiwanese) officers serving with Imperial Japanese forces during WW2.  This example is in near mint condition, particularly the blade that retains all its original plating and faux hamon line to the bottom of the blade.  The hilt has fine fishskin and brass twistwire to the grip.  The gilt brass hilt has a fully working folding guard.  Complete with its original leather and gilt brass, decorated, mounted scabbard.  To see a very similar and fine example of this sword, please go to: https://taipics.com/japanese_garrisons.php.  This site also features some very interesting images of swords and equipment carried by Formosan forces during WW2 – also period photographs of Formosan/Japanese troops.

Condition of the Sword

Terrific condition throughout.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 26 inches (31 inches overall).
